Time 100
The "Time 100 Greatest Photos" are images that have an elite status and conjure an emotional and spiritual response through cultural, historical, geographical, and epistemological contexts. Additionally, Time 100 displays authority, a visceral reminder of who controls the levers of power, how they pull them, and whom it affects. By translating these famous images into lyrical works of abstraction through fluid and deliberate mark-making and surface handling, I remove the visual connection to time and place and reinterpret the significance of the original image. The photograph's original title remains the title of my work, connecting to the importance of the image's content while simultaneously questioning the interface between language and visual phenomena.
